Kumarakom is one of the major tourist haunts in the south Indian state of Kerala. Majorly a backwater destination, it is a cluster of little islands beautifully snuggled along the banks of Vembanad Lake. Each year, it pulls in huge number of tourists not just from India but also from abroad.


Famous Kumarakom Tourism Destinations are 

Vembanad Lake:




Majorly a backwater destination, it is well known for its refreshing activities like boating and fishing. People also throng to this place for picnic purposes. Famed as Asia’s largest freshwater lakes, one can also see many species of birds and animals around the region. 


Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary:




Located along the banks of Vembanad Lake, it is the best place to spot some rare species of native as well as migratory birds like Siberian crane, egret, cuckoo, owl, etc. It is a true haven for birdwatchers and ornithologists. Houseboats rides are at offer at the sanctuary. 


Ayemenem or Aymanam Village: 




A scenic tourist spot surrounded by lush greenery and water bodies, Aymanam is a small backwater village adjoining Kumarakom. The place came to prominence after famous author Arundhati Roy mentioned the beauty of the place in her award winning novel. Certainly, a must see place of interest. 


Pathiramanal: 





It is a picturesque island which is spread over an area of 10 acres. A zoo and an aquarium are the major attractions of the place. Moreover, one can also spot many rare species of migratory birds in the region. It is just 4 kms north of Kumarakom.


Bay Island Driftwood Museum:




It is a popular museum in Kumarakom. Inside the museum, you can see a wide collection of driftwood articles. Many fascinating designs and images have been carved out of driftwood and they are put on display for the visitors. 


Kumarakom Beach: 





It is one of the best places in Kumarakom to relax and rejuvenate your body and soul. You can indulge in various water activities like parasailing, water skiing, surfing, boating and swimming in the beach. Moreover, enjoy relaxing Ayurvedic massages at the beach resorts nearby. Apart from these places, you can also visit other interesting tourist spots in this backwater town like Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls, Jama Masjid, Thirunakkara Mahadeva Temple and Vaikom Mahadeva Temple among others.
