Beautifully snuggled along the Arabian Sea, Kovalam is majorly a beach town well known for its serene and tranquil crescent shaped beaches. The sandy white shorelines with verdant palm fringed trees add charm to this coastal town.


Lighthouse Beach:



Most popular among all the three beaches in Kovalam, it has a picturesque shoreline dotted with swaying palm and coconut groves. There is a 30 metres long lighthouse in the beach from where you can enjoy the panoramic views of Veemapalli Mosque and Poovar. The water on the beach is absolutely safe for swimming. Aruvikkara: Located just 25 kms from Kovalam town, it is a charming village most well known for the Bhagavati Temple of Goddess Durga. It lies on the banks of River Karamana. A beautiful stream flows in front of the temple which adds to the beauty of the temple. 

Vellayani Lake: 



Located just 7 kms away from Kovalam, it is a pristine fresh water lake most famous for its boat races held during the Onam festival. The best time to enjoy the beauty of the lake is under the moonlit night when the clear water of the lake gleams creating a magical effect. 

Vizhinjam Rock Cut Cave: 



Located just 1 km from this south Indian beach town, it dates back to 8th century. One can see various exquisitely carved rock sculptures inside the cave. Moreover, it also houses a shrine dedicated to Vinandhara Dakshinamurthi. 

Vizhinjam Aquarium:



Located at a walking distance from Kovalam, it is popular for its fishing port built in 1997. One can see an array of rare species of ornamental fish and also other aquatic animals like crabs, moon wrasse, clownfish, piranhas, etc. inside the Aquarium. 

Koyikkal Palace: 



This 15th century palace was once the official residence of the erstwhile Travancore rulers. It is at a fair distance of 18 km from city of Thiruvananthapuram. Currently, it is a Folklore Museum and Numismatic Museum which are open to the visitors. Apart from these places, Samudra Beach, Hawa Beach, Kaudiar Palace, Karamana River, Kovalam Jama Masjid and Valiathura Pier are other well known places that you can visit.
